The Future of Healthcare Investment Forum 2024

1200x675-Teaser-to-Large-LSEG

Last week, we were pleased to partner with The London Stock Exchange for the 2024 Future of Healthcare Investment Forum. As usual, it was a well-attended event, with industry leaders and experts from the field of healthcare keen to share their insights with inspiring keynote speeches and lively panel discussions.

Over the course of the day, a clear theme emerged around the considerable opportunities intrinsic to this sector within the UK, where entrepreneurship, leading research and national skill networks are coming together to push innovation that investors may be keen to participate in. Many agreed that we could even be heading into a ‘Golden Age’ for healthcare, with some areas, such as neuroscience, potentially on the cusp of seeing exciting and rapid progress, a large pipeline of products coming through within metabolic diseases, and others pointing to gene cell therapies as an area with huge drug development opportunity.

Speakers did not, however, shy away from the challenges, such as financing for certain research stages where investment may be too early for venture capitalists requiring robust data, but too late for angel investors looking for higher long-term returns. And while panellists noted that activity in the UK public markets has been picking up recently, with more than £18.5bn raised year-to-date at the time of the event, there was agreement that whoever forms the next UK government will need to prioritise economic growth if the healthcare sector in the UK is to reach its full potential.

Ultimately, the discussion evolved to consider how best to bring companies’ remarkable innovations into the hands of patients, with the consensus being that, while there is work to do on supporting at launch, the UK is an excellent location to for drug development and the healthcare sector overall.

We would like to thank all of the speakers for sharing their expertise, and the LSEG for hosting such an interesting and inspiring event.
