We were delighted to be part of the recent London Stock Exchange event in Hong Kong, ‘Listing in London, the world’s most international stock exchange’.

Introduced by Brian Davidson CMG, His Majesty’s Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau, the event gave an update on the UK capital markets, recent regulatory changes and how to raise finance on the London Stock Exchange.

Over 60 representatives from companies attended the evening, reflecting interest in London as a listing venue.

During the event, Mark Hankinson, Co-Head of UK Equity Capital Markets for Deutsche Numis, gave an address on the international nature of the London market and what investors look for when making their investment decisions.

He then joined a panel of speakers to discuss the impact of the new UK listing rules, introduced last month, which make it easier for international companies to list in London. These new rules simplify many of the previous ones, and will make London one of the most flexible major exchanges globally on which to list. At Deutsche Numis, we have already seen a number of businesses from Asia renew their interest in London as an international home following the rule changes.

Teasers-356x223-MarkPanel-02As part of his remarks, Mark said: “London was always an excellent place to list an international business. It offers deep liquidity, a thriving investor and analyst community, and access to international capital. Our market is the most welcoming anywhere in the world to international businesses, which is why so many of them have made their home on the London Stock Exchange. These new rule changes will supercharge that potential by making it easier, more cost effective and more flexible to list in London.”

He went on to say: "In a rapidly changing world, the most successful companies - and the most successful investors - will be those that embrace globalisation, transparency and innovation. By listing internationally you are not just raising capital - you're firmly setting out your stall as a global business and connecting with a truly international network of investors."

London has long been one of the most international exchanges globally. According to London Stock Exchange figures:

  • Companies from over 50 jurisdictions are listed in London
  • 36% of London-listed companies are international, more than on any other major exchange
  • 28% of FTSE 100 companies report in an international currency
  • 60% of institutional investors in the FTSE All Share are international
  • 59% of revenues of FTSE 100 companies derive from overseas.
